TBC Service Awards

CORPS SERVICE AWARD

DIVISION SERVICE AWARD

BRIGADE SERVICE AWARD

REGIMENTAL SERVICE AWARD

Corps service Award

The Corps Service Award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Tri-City Band Corps and requires a unanimous vote by the entire executive committee. Since TBC's inception, this award has only been issued 1 time in 17 years and its recipient represents the top 0.05% of TBC members. Along with this award, comes an automatic 1-grade promotion in rank and is the only way for a member to achieve the 5-star general rank.

Annie Wen

2021

Annie Wen is now also the first person to be twice awarded the Corps Service Award. Over her 4 years as an officer and 5.5 years with TBC, Annie is by far the most decorated officer in the history of the organization. Her second Corps Service Award is for:

  1. Perfect attendance at all officer meetings and parades including optional ones for all 4 years of high school
  2. The first individual to serve as an officer for all 4 years of high school
  3. Growth of TBC membership from 250 to 1000
  4. Growth of TBC fundraising from $20K to +$60K

Annie Wen

2020

Annie Wen joined TBC when she was just a 7th grader and has made remarkable contributions over her years as an officer. Annie has set countless records within the group including:

  1. First sophomore to be named CEO
  2. First Irvington & first non-Mission student named CEO
  3. Most awards ever earned by a single person
  4. And now... The first recipient of the Corps Service Award

Annie's major contributions include tripling the size of TBC since she took over, launching 5 new programs, multiple awards, and leading TBC through two of our most challenging times: the shooting at Gilroy Garlic Festival and the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Annie has kept TBC strong, creating new initiatives and programs to fill in where the school district and other community programs have fallen short.

Jessica Lee

2016

Jessica Lee led TBC on our first international performance tour to the London New Year’s Day Parade in January 2016. Jessica took the lead in applying for entrance to the prestigious event, music selection, registration management, equipment manifest management, rehearsals, and more. Furthermore, upon learning that another student could not afford the trip, Jessica donated all of her, quite considerate, fundraising credit to support the student in need.

Kevin Zhu

2016

Kevin Zhu served as Chief Financial Officer during TBC’s first time participating in the Fremont Festival of Arts. Kevin was responsible for completing a complicated registration process, figuring out how to make the food, purchasing equipment, managing the 2-day event, and so much more. Kevin had no help and no previous experience or team to help guide him as he navigated through the process. Kevin’s hard work paid off to just under $5000 in revenue and $3000 in profit, which represented the largest fundraiser event in TBC history at the time.

Jessica Lee

2017

Jessica Lee presided over the formation of the Cadet Regiment. TBC’s first program expansion in history led to a 50% increase in overall membership in our first year. The Cadet Regiment has proved to be a great feeder program for TBC and allows our officers and high school members to contribute more to our community. The regiment has also benefited the local community, by strengthening the quality of freshmen recruits entering the high school programs. Jessica’s hard work to make this program possible has had a significant contribution to both TBC and our community.

Jocelyn Kuo

2017

Jocelyn led the formation of TBC's first winter program the Eternal Regiment, a winter color guard program for junior high and high school students. Jocelyn worked tirelessly to recruit students to a brand new and unknown program, find a rehearsal facility, secure instructors for the program, as well as navigate the registration and insurance process for the first time. She stepped in to help instruct the class as well and was instrumental in the success of the Eternal Regiment.

Olivia Mendoza

2018

Olivia has been a long-time participant with TBC, ending her senior year as Director of the Cadet Regiment. During her tenure, Olivia made several major contributions to TBC in terms of recruiting new members and participating in events. Olivia is the only officer to have perfect attendance at all parades, rehearsals, and officer meetings for 2 years in a row. Her dedication and commitment to TBC have been impeccable and we are honored to have her as a part of our group.

Ryan Chiu

2019

Ryan Chiu is the first college student to ever serve as an officer in TBC. During his tenure as Chief of Staff, Ryan earned more points in a single quarter than anyone else in TBC history by volunteering for every assignment and program available. Ryan took significant time out of his schedule working more than double his expected workload to support TBC’s activities throughout the year.

Annie Wen

2019

Annie Wen was only a sophomore when she became CEO and created the Special Needs Percussion Regiment, a group dedicated to providing musical education to special-needs children. Annie was responsible for finding participants, trial sessions, event registration, transportation, equipment, volunteer management, and more. This was the first program not designed to help TBC in any way and the first program not conceived of in our long-term plan by our founder. Annie took complete ownership of this program, managing it without much if any support from the rest of the officers in its first year marking a huge step in the growth of TBC.

Chloe Chan

2020

Chloe Chan was part of TBC for three years. For two years, Chloe served as Senior Financial Officer, responsible for planning and organizing funds, supplies, and fundraisers. In her last year at TBC, Chloe served as Highland Regiment Director, creating one of the only independent student pipe band organizations in the country. Chloe's dedication to her work has made a significant contribution to TBC, and we are honored to have her a part of us.

Rachel Yen

2022

Rachel Yen was a TBC officer for one year and was in the color guard in 8th grade. She served as an Administrative Officer, managing SmartMusic for the Hastati Regiment and grades for Auxiliary programs. Rachel later became the Eternal Regiment Director where she was responsible for strengthening one of the only programs in the Tri-City area that provides junior high and high school students to opportunity to learn skills and gain experience to prepare them for color guard in a high school marching band.
