About Us

The Cadet Regiment is open to all current sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from all schools. Students will be rehearsing to perform in several parades throughout the year. Participants will get a chance to meet band students from across the Tri-City area, learn how to march, and perform in front of tens of thousands of audience members.

This program was created to provide junior high students in the Tri-City area with the opportunity to participate in marching band prior to high school, so that musicians can gain experience and be better prepared for high school music programs. This not only allows participants to meet like-minded, dedicated students from other schools, but also strengthens the high school marching programs. Most of the top high school marching band programs begin marching programs in junior high. With the implementation of the Cadet Regiment, we hope to improve the quality of marching programs in the community and see a growth in membership at local high schools.

Student Staff

Kavya Joshi

Cadet Regiment Director (Fremont Site Director)

Kavya Joshi is a sophomore at Irvington High School. She has been part of TBC since 9th grade, and plays clarinet and bass clarinet. Kavya likes to play volleyball, swim, and hang out with friends and family in her free time. If she was granted three wishes, she would wish for the well being of her family and friends, 150 billion dollars, and her own private jet. Kavya's hidden talent is that she can make a flower shape with her tongue. Her sister can do this as well but besides that, she knows very few people who can.

Jonathan Zhang

Cadet Regiment Director (Cupertino Site Director)

Jonathan Zhang is a senior at Mission San Jose High School. This is his first year as part of TBC, and he plays clarinet. Jonathan likes to exercise at the gym or outside, talk with friends, and play video games. If he could have three wishes, he would wish for a perfect girlfriend, success in life, and for the people around him to succeed and thrive. A hidden talent about Jonathan is that I'm extremely flexible, even though he is male and six feet tall. Whilst kneeling, Jonathan can arch his back backwards and touch his feet.

Andrea Ishananto-Rotsidis

Deputy Chief Musical Director - Cadets

Andrea Ishananto is a freshman at Mission San Jose High School. This is her first year in TBC, and has been playing percussion since 4th grade and recently started learning clarinet. Besides music, she likes running cross country, learning and performing K-pop dances because they're challenging to learn but are super fun and rewarding once you're able to do them from memory. Although Andrea has studied Greek for 12 years and travels to Greece nearly every summer to visit her family, she can barely converse in it.

Vishnu Nair

Executive Director of Auxiliaries

Vishnu Nair is a senior at Mission San Jose High School. He has been in TBC for more than 2 years and plays the trumpet. Aside from music, he likes to do mixed martial arts, dance, and code. If Vishnu were granted three wishes, he would wish for the ability to control probabilities in any reality he's in, to know the answer to everything, past, present, and future, without side effects mentally or physically, and to have complete knowledge on how to use the above two abilities. A fun fact about Vishnu is that he can understand and speak 4 languages as of now and is always trying to learn more. He is also able to fall asleep very quickly & easily wherever and whenever he wants to.

WHY JOIN?

Make new friends from other schools: The Cadet Regiment offers junior high school students the unparalleled opportunity to meet music students from across the Tri-City area! During rehearsals and parades, participants will learn to work as a team and create lasting friendships as they bond during these fulfilling activities.

Perform to Improve: TBC Cadet Regiment is the growing foundation to both high school marching bands and our renowned Royal Regiment. As the only junior high marching band in the Tri-City area, Cadet Regiment welcomes junior high students who are interested in joining marching band in the future.

Get a head start in high school: Learn marching fundamentals and gain performance experience during summer parades! Students will train in marching basics, preparing them for high school marching band and strengthening our local high school marching groups.

Leadership Opportunities: Student officers run just about everything in TBC and practice leadership skills on a frequent basis. Cadets that have successfully finished a parade season with us are able to apply for a Leadership Position in our Cadet Leadership Team. This team will work alongside our staff to help run rehearsals as well as provide input on Cadet Regiment events. When Cadet Regiment participants graduate and go on to join the high school groups, they’ll be able to enter high school as an officer.

Community Service (for high school students): High school students have the chance to participate with the Cadet Regiment by training and mentoring the junior high participants. By volunteering their time teaching and helping out, these students earn service hours, potentially qualify for some of TBC’s service learning awards, and contribute back to the community!
